1. Can I take my Avis New Zealand rental car on the ferry?
Yes. You can take your rental car on the ferry year-round. Please note that you are responsible for making your own ferry reservation.
2. Why can't I see a rental price when booking from Auckland Airport to Christchurch Airport?
A price may not be displayed if no vehicles are available for a one-way rental between the selected locations or if the minimum rental period has not been met. Please try searching again with different dates or locations.
3. Is there a one-way fee for a Multi-Island rental?
A one-way fee may not apply. When reviewing your rate, please check the services included in your plan. If no one-way fee is shown, you will not be charged one.
4. Are all vehicle groups available for Multi-Island rentals?
You can book any vehicle group displayed as available on the rate selection screen for your Multi-Island rental.
5. If I don't take my rental car on the ferry, do I need separate reservations for each island?
Yes. If you do not plan to take your rental car on the ferry, you will need to make a separate rental car reservation for each island.
6. What should I enter for the license plate number and fuel type when booking the ferry if I'm driving a rental car?
For the license plate number, select "I don't know my number plate/I do not know vehicle registration." For the fuel type, select your vehicle type and choose "I don't know yet" for gasoline.
7. Does my rental car insurance cover damage that occurs while the vehicle is on the ferry?
Yes. If you purchased insurance with your rental, the standard coverage will apply while the vehicle is on the ferry. There are no special exceptions or exclusions for ferry travel.
